There are a few ways that you can start helping. First and foremost, prayer for God's provision over this trip and his purpose for me during this trip. Job 9:1-10 tells us how powerful God is and how immense He is, and that there is no surprise for God, everything is perfect in His timing.
"Job continued by saying: "So what's new? I know all this. The question
is, 'How can mere mortals get right with God?' If we wanted to bring
our case before him, what chance would we have? Not one in a thousand!
God's wisdom is so deep, God's power so immense,
who could take him on and come out in one piece? He moves mountains
before they know what's happened, flips them on their heads on a whim.
He gives the earth a good shaking up, rocks it down to its very
foundations. He tells the sun, 'Don't shine,' and it doesn't; he pulls
the blinds on the stars. All by himself he stretches out the heavens
and strides on the waves of the sea. He designed the Big Dipper and
Orion, the Pleiades and Alpha Centauri. We'll never comprehend all the
great things he does; his miracle-surprises can't be counted." Job 9:1-10, The Message.
Secondly, you can support me financially, by attending the Burma Benefit: Spaghetti Fundraiser Lunch on September 30th, 2012 at 12noon, (see photo below). There is no specified cost, but all donations will go directly towards my trip costs and any financial needs of the trip.
<The cost of the trip is approximately $2,500 and I have about over half of that money left to raise in five months>
What are we going to be doing, you ask? Great question! I'm not entirely sure myself, BUT there are big things in store, for sure. Women's rights are essentially nonexistent in that part of the world. Women are born and that culture feels as though they are a lost cause and put little, if any, effort into them. Education is not a priority for these girls, some marry as young as 12, and women are literally degraded-leaving them feeling no self-worth. If women are given an opportunity for education, which is rare, they are generally asked to quit in elementary school or middle school to go and make a wage, which is next to nothing and could barely support one person for a day; nevertheless, a family for a month. The days that we find it hard to get up out of bed to go to work or school or the gym, let us remember that these girls, if given the opportunity to go to school walk miles upon miles to recrieve only a basic education. If given the opportunity to work, work in poor conditions for very little money. And are rarely given the opportunity for healthcare and often die from easily preventable diseases; basic care that we take for granted. We will be hiking from village to village to learn of these inequalities, the racism and sexism that exists, and what is being done and what can be done to eliminate these injustices. Your money will not only support my finances and travel expenses, but a portion of your money will go towards the direct ministries and needs of these local villages. The purpose of this trip is NOT to go and change these people in Burma; yet, it is to go there and BE CHANGED by them.
I appreciate your continued support in all of my experiences and trips, and I pray that you continue to keep our group in your thoughts and prayers. God has big plans for us, and has left much of these plans into our hands to carryout by listening closely, trusting wisely, and following a calling.
With love always...
